Why is it that some businesses seem to flourish with success while others sit spinning their wheels with no hint of growth on the horizon?
What do some business owner do differently that makes them the go-to products and services in their market?
There are many things that can make or break a business and determine how successful it can be. However there are some steps you can take, as a business owner, to ensure that you make your presence known and create a message that will shine brighter than all the rest.
Give Your Blog Some TLC
It’s no surprise that many business owners consider their blogs an afterthought when it comes to building their business. Why focus on creating blog posts when products and services are really what brings in the money and customer base?
Your blog can be one of the best ways to get your message out into the masses and give people a reason to visit your website. If they don’t visit, they don’t know what services you offer.
A blog also provides a personal touch, giving your market insight as to who you really are as a person. This is highly important because people are much more likely to buy from a friend than a complete stranger. If you can build that rapport in your blog you are well on your way to a loyal customer base.
Finding topics to write about hold many up from beginning a blog in the first place. The key is to take a look at your market. What do they need? What problems can you solve? The best bet at finding this out is to go where your target market resides. Join forums and groups. Find out what questions they are asking and what they need help with. This can also help in the creation of products as well.
The key to blogging, above anything else, is consistency. Once you get a set schedule and start blogging the topics will come more naturally. The more you write about the more you will have to write about.
A couple of friends over at Piggy Makes Bank have created a wonderful resource for those needing a little help with consistent daily actions that will produce a stream of income through your blog. You can check it out here!
Start A Podcast
Podcasting has become just as important (if not more) as having a blog. Not only is podcasting a great marketing tool when it comes to promoting your products and services, but you can also interview others that will have an impact on your market as well.
You don’t necessarily have to do interviews, however, if you’re not ready for that. You can start off doing a solo show where you just provide a couple minutes of audio with helpful tips for your market. You can do this once a week or everyday. It’s completely up to you. The important thing is that you get your message out there and podcasting is a great way to do so.
Podcasting is an easy, inexpensive way to reach a very targeted audience and it can eventually help you become known as an expert in your niche or market. It’s also another way you can add a personal touch to the content you are producing. It’s a great way to let your voice be heard while giving the audience a way to get to know, like, and trust you.
Join a Supportive Community
One of the best (and it should be one of the first) things you can do when you begin building your business is to join a supportive community that will help you on your journey. This can be through an online membership group, a local meet-up, or a small mastermind.
Not only can you ask questions and get feedback, but a community will provide you with the opportunity to create lifelong friendships, joint ventures, and other amazing projects that will take your business to a new level.
With the many advantages of online business, it can also be lonely from time to time. You are typically a one man/one woman show. When the success of your business relies completely on you, it helps to have a place to go for answers, feedback, and a shoulder to cry on.
Don’t count out community~doing anything without the support of others that are heading in the same direction can quickly lead to frustration and burnout.
The Solo Masterminds Forum has been one of the most supportive, encouraging communities I’ve had the change to be a part of. It is full of like-minded Solopreneurs who are all at different phases in their business and at different levels of success and has been a huge part of the forward movement in my business. Feel free to check it out here.
Hire A Coach
Along with a supportive community, hiring a business coach is one of the most valuable ways you can invest in your success. A coach will provide that expert opinion that you need at crucial times in your business and will be able to guide you in the right direction.
With a business coach you can eliminate the fear that you are just spinning your wheels because they will be there each step of the way to let you know what is working and what needs to be changed about your business.
A good coach will challenge you to step up to new levels and step out of your comfort zone to reach a new area of success. They will provide motivation and clarity when you are stuck and spark the creativity within you.
When you are working solo it helps to have the accountability factor when it comes to getting things done. A coach will do that for you and so much more.
This may sound a little obvious but taking action is one of the things business owners fail to do. There are many reasons for this but one of the biggest ones is fear. This can be fear of failure, fear of success, and fear of stepping too far outside the comfort zone.
Decide what it is that has been keeping you from taking action. If it’s fear of failure or fear of looking silly, address why you feel this way? What is the worst that could happen? What are the steps you can take to shift your mindset and begin seeing things differently? (Hint: A coach will help with this too!)
The fact is, if you don’t take action, you will always remain in the same place. A business can’t thrive that way. There has to be consistent forward movement in order to gain traction and make your business something you are proud of.
Consistent daily action will get you closer to you goal no matter how small the step. Keep pushing ahead!
There are many factors that determine how successful a business can be. These are just a few steps that you can take to ensure you are doing all you can to build a business that will flourish with success while helping others in your market.
